Gas struts: the right pair for your van

A tailgate that drifts down is almost always a worn pair of gas struts, and replacing both together is the safe way to fix it. A tailgate that drops while you are loading is a real injury risk, so don't leave a failing strut. On the H200 the pair depends on the body width and roof height, not just the year. We list all three, each in LH and RH for 2005 to 2025. In our listings "standard" means the narrow body, low roof van, the most common H200:

• Standard: narrow body, low roof.
• Wide body, mid roof.
• Wide body, high roof.

Tailgate shells

A tailgate shell is the rear door panel itself, for a tailgate that is dented, rusted or accident damaged. For the H200 we list the narrow body shell in unpainted primer or painted white, and wide body high roof shells for 2005 to 2018, one painted white and one in primer. For the H300 there are high roof shells, unpainted or painted white, for 2019 on. Check the roof height on the listing before you order, and match the finish to the job: primer for a repaint in your own colour, white if your van is already white.

Warranty, collection and delivery

New aftermarket tailgate parts carry our 3-month warranty, set out in the warranty policy. Gas struts are easy to post, but a tailgate shell is a large panel, so many customers collect it from our Glendene store, open Monday to Saturday, 8am to 5pm. We also deliver anywhere in New Zealand.

Trim and extras

Which gas struts does my Hiace H200 need?

It depends on the body width and the roof height. We list struts for the standard narrow body low roof, the wide body mid roof and the wide body high roof. Check the roof and body on the listing, or send us your plate/rego number.

Should I replace both tailgate struts?

Yes. Struts wear at a similar rate, and fitting one new strut against one tired one puts the load on the new one. We sell them as LH and RH, so you can buy the pair.

Do you have an H300 tailgate shell?

Yes. We have H300 high roof tailgate shells, unpainted in primer or painted white. Need H300 gas struts? Send a parts inquiry and we'll source them.

What is the difference between the unpainted and white painted shell?

The unpainted shell is coated in primer and needs painting. The white painted shell is supplied painted, which saves on painting costs.
