1. Three-month aftermarket-product warranty

Car Parts Market (CPM) provides a voluntary three-month warranty on every aftermarket product we sell.

The warranty period starts on the date the product is delivered or collected. It covers a defect in materials or workmanship that appears during normal, intended use, provided the product was selected for the correct application and installed, programmed, calibrated, used, and maintained correctly.

This is a parts warranty. The remedies and exclusions in this policy describe our voluntary warranty. They do not limit mandatory legal rights.

2. Your Consumer Guarantees Act rights

Our three-month warranty is additional to, and does not replace, rights under the Consumer Guarantees Act 1993 (CGA), Fair Trading Act 1986, or other applicable New Zealand law.

For consumer purchases, the CGA requires products to meet guarantees including acceptable quality, safety, durability, fitness for purpose, and correspondence with description. Those guarantees apply regardless of the duration of this voluntary warranty. Depending on the product, price, representations, use, and what a reasonable consumer would expect, a CGA right may continue after the three-month warranty has expired.

The three-month period must never be described as the consumer's only claim period. Nothing in this policy excludes, restricts, or modifies a right or remedy that cannot lawfully be excluded.

3. What is an aftermarket product?

An aftermarket product is a product not made or supplied as a genuine original-equipment product by the vehicle manufacturer, even if it is designed to replace or be compatible with an OEM part. Product listings identify genuine OEM products where applicable.

Vehicle-manufacturer names, models, trade marks, and OEM numbers are used for identification or compatibility. They do not mean the aftermarket manufacturer is affiliated with or endorsed by the vehicle manufacturer.

4. What the voluntary warranty covers

Subject to this policy, the voluntary warranty covers a manufacturing defect in the supplied aftermarket product's materials or workmanship that causes it not to perform its intended function during the three-month period.

Examples may include:

  • premature structural or component failure caused by an inherent defect;
  • an internal electrical or electronic defect not caused by wiring, voltage, programming, or another vehicle system;
  • a leak caused by an inherent manufacturing defect rather than installation, impact, corrosion, contamination, or a related component; or
  • a product that materially fails to perform to its published specification despite correct application and installation.

Coverage is assessed from the product, evidence, installation, vehicle condition, and likely cause. A symptom alone does not establish that the supplied product is defective.

5. Fitment Guarantee

The voluntary Fitment Guarantee applies when, before purchase:

  • the product page expressly displays “Fitment Guaranteed” for the exact vehicle; or
  • our team confirms compatibility in writing after receiving all vehicle information we reasonably request.

You must provide complete and accurate make, model, year, build date, VIN or chassis, registration, engine, transmission, body, trim, market, and modification details as requested.

If a confirmed product does not fit, do not force, alter, paint, cut, drill, wire, program, or continue installation. Contact us promptly. Subject to inspection, we will provide the correct product or refund the product price and cover reasonable approved return freight.

The Fitment Guarantee does not apply to an issue caused by incomplete or incorrect vehicle information, an undisclosed modification, a change to the intended application, or installation error. These voluntary conditions do not limit CGA rights relating to description or fitness for a purpose made known to us where you reasonably relied on our skill or judgment.

6. Installation standards

Correct installation is essential to product performance and vehicle safety. We strongly recommend installation by a suitably qualified automotive technician and, for electrical or electronic products, a qualified auto electrician.

Professional installation is required under this voluntary warranty where:

  • the product listing, instructions, manufacturer, or applicable law requires it;
  • the product is safety-critical or requires specialist tools, measurement, press work, torque procedures, wiring, coding, calibration, refrigerant handling, wheel alignment, or certification; or
  • a competent DIY installer could not reasonably complete and verify the work safely.

The installer should, as applicable:

  • confirm the underlying fault before replacement;
  • compare the new and original products before installation;
  • inspect and remedy related systems and components that could cause repeat failure;
  • use correct tools, fluids, lubricants, seals, fasteners, torque settings, wiring protection, and manufacturer procedures;
  • flush contaminated systems and replace required related consumables;
  • complete required programming, relearning, calibration, alignment, or testing; and
  • stop and seek advice if the product differs or does not install without force or modification.

DIY installation does not automatically cancel a statutory right or this voluntary warranty. However, the voluntary warranty does not cover damage or failure caused or contributed to by incorrect diagnosis, selection, installation, wiring, programming, calibration, adjustment, testing, or maintenance.

7. Electrical and electronic products

Electrical faults can be caused by wiring, connectors, grounds, fuses, relays, battery or charging voltage, water ingress, another module, coding, vehicle communication networks, or incorrect diagnosis.

For an electrical or electronic warranty claim, we may reasonably request:

  • diagnostic scan results and fault codes;
  • voltage, continuity, resistance, load, or related test results;
  • wiring, connector, fuse, relay, and ground checks;
  • programming or calibration evidence;
  • the original fault diagnosis; and
  • an auto electrician's report where reasonably necessary.

Connecting, installing, or opening an electrical product prevents a change-of-mind return under our Returns and Refunds Policy, but it does not prevent a genuine fault claim. We will distinguish between a strict voluntary return condition and rights for a defective product.

8. Items and causes not covered by the voluntary warranty

The voluntary warranty does not cover a failure or loss to the extent caused by:

  • incorrect or incomplete vehicle information or an incompatible application not confirmed by us;
  • incorrect diagnosis, selection, installation, wiring, coding, programming, calibration, alignment, adjustment, maintenance, or repair;
  • failure to follow product instructions, vehicle-manufacturer procedures, service intervals, warnings, torque settings, or legal requirements;
  • misuse, abuse, neglect, racing, competition, drifting, off-road use where the product is not designed for it, overloading, impact, collision, fire, theft, or vandalism;
  • unauthorised disassembly, modification, machining, painting, cutting, drilling, or repair;
  • normal wear and tear or consumption through normal use, where no inherent defect is present;
  • contamination, incorrect or insufficient fluid or lubricant, overheating, freezing, corrosion, water ingress, chemical exposure, foreign material, or poor storage;
  • voltage irregularity, reversed polarity, short circuit, wiring fault, defective battery or charging system, or another electrical component;
  • another worn, failed, blocked, unflushed, unbalanced, misaligned, or incompatible vehicle component;
  • failure to replace a related part, seal, filter, belt, hose, fastener, fluid, or consumable required by the instructions or standard trade practice;
  • continued operation after a warning light, noise, leak, overheating, malfunction, or other sign made it reasonable to stop; or
  • an event beyond the product's intended operating conditions.

Cosmetic variation that is consistent with the description and does not impair function is not a defect. A product reaching the end of its reasonable service life through normal use is not necessarily defective.

An exclusion applies only to the extent the excluded circumstance caused or contributed to the issue. We will not reject an unrelated inherent-defect claim merely because the product was opened, installed, or used.

9. Labour and other costs

The voluntary three-month warranty covers the product only. It does not include diagnosis, removal, installation, reinstallation, programming, calibration, wheel alignment, consumables, towing, storage, vehicle hire, travel, downtime, loss of income, or damage to another component.

However, this voluntary limitation does not exclude any right to recover reasonably foreseeable loss or other amounts available under the CGA or another law. Each statutory claim will be assessed on its facts, including causation, foreseeability, reasonableness, evidence, and steps taken to minimise loss.

Do not incur substantial costs on the assumption that we will pay them. Contact us first and allow a reasonable opportunity to inspect and remedy the issue, unless urgent action is reasonably required for safety or to prevent further loss.

10. Making a warranty claim

To claim under the voluntary warranty, contact us as soon as reasonably possible after discovering the issue and within three months after delivery or collection.

Provide, to the extent reasonably relevant:

  • name, contact details, order number, and proof of purchase;
  • product name, SKU, serial or batch number, and quantity affected;
  • vehicle registration, VIN or chassis, make, model, year, build date, engine, transmission, and odometer;
  • installation date, odometer at installation, installer details, and installation invoice;
  • a clear description of the original diagnosis, issue, symptoms, and when they appeared;
  • photographs or video of the product, packaging, installation, related components, and damage;
  • scan codes, test results, and a technician's or auto electrician's report where reasonably necessary; and
  • details of any modification, incident, warning, repair, or related component failure.

A statutory CGA claim may be made after the voluntary period where the law applies. A missing original receipt, packaging, professional-installation invoice, or item of evidence does not automatically defeat a statutory claim. We will accept reasonable alternative proof and request only what is reasonably necessary.

11. Safety while a claim is assessed

Stop using the product and, where appropriate, the vehicle if continued use may cause injury or further damage. Follow any safety, isolation, transport, dangerous-goods, or recall instructions we provide.

You must take reasonable steps to minimise loss, but you are not required to take an unsafe action. Contact emergency services where there is immediate danger.

12. Inspection, testing, and return

We may inspect or test the product, review installation and vehicle information, or consult the supplier or manufacturer. Contact us before returning it so we can provide the correct address, packaging, and transport instructions.

For a small product, we may ask you to initially pay reasonable return postage. If the product is confirmed faulty, we will reimburse reasonable agreed return costs. If return would be difficult or expensive because of size, weight, installation, or transport requirements, tell us so we can arrange an appropriate method where required.

We will assess the claim within a reasonable time. If third-party testing is reasonably required, we will keep you informed. We will not use a supplier or manufacturer's delay or decision to avoid our own obligations as the retailer.

13. Outcomes under the voluntary warranty

If we accept a claim under the voluntary three-month warranty, we will choose one of the following reasonable remedies:

  • repair the product;
  • replace it with the same or an equivalent product; or
  • refund the price paid for the product.

The remedy will be provided at no product or standard-redelivery charge. Availability and the nature of the defect may affect the remedy we choose under the voluntary warranty.

If a replacement aftermarket product is supplied under our voluntary warranty, it receives a new three-month voluntary warranty from the date the replacement is delivered or collected.

The remedies above do not restrict your ability to choose a remedy where the CGA gives you that choice, including for a failure of substantial character.

14. Manufacturer warranties

A product may include a separate manufacturer or supplier warranty. Its duration and conditions will be stated on the listing, packaging, or warranty document where applicable.

Any manufacturer warranty is additional to our three-month warranty and statutory rights. If a manufacturer warranty is longer, its longer term remains available according to its lawful conditions. You may still contact us as the retailer about a CGA claim rather than being required to deal only with the manufacturer.

15. Proof and claim decisions

We will give you the outcome and, if a claim is declined, the main reason. You may request a review and provide additional evidence.

Fraudulent, altered, or knowingly false claim material may result in denial of the voluntary claim and other lawful action. This does not affect a genuine claim.

16. Business purchases

If the product is acquired in trade and for business purposes, the business-customer provisions in our Terms and Conditions may apply, including a written agreement to contract out of the CGA where legally permitted, fair, and reasonable.

Do not send a product before receiving return instructions. Include the claim reference inside the parcel and do not write on retail product packaging.

If we cannot resolve the concern, you may seek guidance from Consumer Protection, Citizens Advice Bureau, or Community Law, and may be able to apply to the Disputes Tribunal. See also our Returns and Refunds Policy.

Submitting a warranty request creates a pending claim for our team to assess against this policy. It does not itself approve the claim, replace stock, restock an item, or issue a refund.
