Broken Wing Mirror on a Toyota Hiace: What to Do and What to Buy
Cracked glass or a snapped housing on your Hiace? Learn whether you can still drive, what a WoF inspector may check, and how to buy the right mirror.
Short answer: a broken wing mirror on a Toyota Hiace is cheap to fix, but fit what matches your generation (H100, H200 or H300), your side (LH or RH) and your mirror type (manual or electric, with or without an indicator). A mirror that gives you a poor view behind you can fail a warrant of fitness, so fix it before your next inspection.
Can I drive my Hiace with a broken wing mirror?
It depends on the damage. If the glass is cracked but still gives you a clear view, or the housing is scuffed, most drivers carry on until a replacement arrives. If the mirror is hanging off, pointing at the road, or the glass is missing, you no longer have a safe view of traffic, and you should fix it before driving further than you need to.
A van has no rear window view when it is loaded, so the wing mirrors do most of the work. That makes a damaged mirror a bigger problem on a Hiace than on a hatchback.
Will a broken wing mirror fail a WoF?
It can. A WoF inspector checks that the mirrors are fitted, secure and give a usable view, so a loose, missing or badly cracked mirror is a risk. The inspector makes the call on the day, so if you are unsure, ask your inspection station before you book. Our guide to what fails a WoF on lights covers the light side of the same check, and our WoF failure parts page lists common fixes.
Which part has actually broken?
Before you order, work out what you need. A wing mirror is several parts, and the cheapest fix depends on which one failed:
| What you see | Likely part | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Cracked or missing reflective glass | Mirror glass | Not listed? Ask us, as we may have it or can source it |
| Housing cracked, snapped or hanging | Complete wing mirror | Usually the simplest repair |
| Mirror won't adjust or fold | Electric mirror unit | Confirm the mirror is electric before you order |
| Indicator in the mirror is dead | Mirror with indicator, or the lamp | Check your original has an indicator |
| Scratched or faded cover | Mirror cover or a complete mirror | Chrome and black finishes differ |
How do I know which Hiace wing mirror fits?
Check four things on the listing before you order:
- Generation. The H100, H200 and H300 have different bodies, and mirrors are rarely shared between them. If you are not sure which you drive, read Which Toyota Hiace do you have?.
- Side. In NZ, LH is the passenger side (left as you sit in the driver's seat) and RH is the driver's side. A wing mirror is a mirror image, so the wrong side will not fit.
- Year range. Front-end and door styling changed at facelifts, so check the year range shown.
- Features. Match manual or electric adjustment, indicator or no indicator, and chrome or black.
If you still cannot tell, send your plate or VIN through a parts inquiry and we will confirm fitment before you buy. When we confirm a part in writing and it does not fit, our Fitment Guarantee covers the correct part or a refund, plus approved return freight.

FAQs
How do I replace a Hiace wing mirror?
Most replacements are bolt-on. Remove the inner door trim or cover that hides the mirror's fixings, disconnect the plug if it is an electric mirror, undo the fixings while supporting the mirror, then fit the new one in reverse. Layouts differ by generation, so follow a guide for your model, and use a professional if you are unsure.
Is a wing mirror the same as a side mirror?
Yes. "Wing mirror" and "side mirror" mean the same part. In NZ, "wing mirror" is the common term.
Can I replace just the mirror glass?
Often, yes. If only the glass is cracked and the housing is fine, a glass-only part may suit your mirror. If it isn't listed, ask us and we'll check whether we have it or can source it. If the housing is damaged, replace the whole mirror.
Which side is the LH wing mirror on a Hiace?
LH is the passenger side. RH is the driver's side.
Do you ship Hiace wing mirrors to Australia?
Yes. We deliver anywhere in New Zealand and also ship to Australia.
